This week’s meeting was held at Brome’s Modern Eatery on Michigan Ave in West Dearborn. We met there to re-dedicate the Rotary Little Free Library in honor of Past President, Bob Gleichauf  who built and placed the original Little Free Library. The Library is  now located in the pocket park on the east side of Brome’s where it will be maintained by the  Rotary Club of Dearborn
Attending the re-dedication lunch were members of Bob Gleichauf’s family, some who travelled from Milwaukee to participate.
Bob’s eldest daughter, Carrie gave a moving tribute to the memory of her father remembering that home, church and Rotary were his world.
We all took moments to remember Bob’s smile, his positivity and love of life, not forgetting the gusto of his singing voice.Bob Gleichauf’s family and Rotarians posed with the Little Free Library in the pocket park adjacent to Brome’s Modern Eatery. The City of Dearborn will permanently install the Library in an appropriate setting in the pocket park where it will be maintained by the Rotary Club of Dearborn. Rotarians are encouraged to visit the library often and to keep it stocked with enjoyable books.

Rotarian, Russ Kavalhuna spoke to the club as a Dearborn citizen today urging Dearborn residents to vote in February. He advocated for the millage continuation on the ballot. Reasons for voting to continue the millage:Henry Ford College now has more high school students dually enrolled in college classes than any other community college in the State. High School students from Dearborn Public Schools attend college classes at HFC at no cost to their families. These tuition costs are covered by a voter approved millage.  The 4 mill millage is up for renewal at the February 2024 election.Henry Ford College has also entered into a transfer agreement with the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Students who have graduated from HFC and wish to attend UM-D are automatically accepted to the University and all of their HFC credits will transfer.

Dearborn Rotarians joined volunteers from the Intercultural Community Center in Dearborn and the staff of Zaman International in January 2024 to support
the Dearborn Schools “Battle Against Hunger” event.Volunteers packaged food and household donations at Zaman International including cookies made by Zaman staff at the facility.Dearborn Rotary is pleased and honored to play a role in supporting these efforts.

Request and Announcements

from President David
The Little Free Library needs some TLC.  The new location is exposing the Little Free Library more to the elements.  The Little Free Library needs a roof cover, like shingles or rubber material, plus all around caulking.

I’m  seeking someone handy to do a weatherization project on the Little Free Library.
Please contact me if you can help.
