Archer Golf Outing 2022

What is more fun than golf on an exceptional golf course for the benefit of raising money for scholarships for deserving Dearborn students? Nothing. In 2022, Dearborn Rotary gave away over $72,000 in scholarships to deserving students. One of the ways we can do that is with our Hugh Archer Golf Outing, which happened August 1st. Great fun was had at Dearborn Country Club with friends who came to play and enjoy fellowship with amazing people doing great work for the community. The winners are shown here. Thanks to all our sponsors for their continued support. A special thank you to Jim Ives for taking all the photos.  Go to “Photos” for pictures of the day.

Rotary Day of Service 2022

Rotary members from District 6400, which spans from Wayne and Lenawee County in Michigan to Windsor and Essex Counties in Ontario will be showcasing their impact on September 17, 2022, where they will participate in a Day of Service throughout the region.

The 1,500 members in the district’s 52 clubs have long supported their communities through a range of service projects. On the Day of Service, clubs will work on projects simultaneously to illustrate to themselves and to their communities their far-reaching impact.

“The clubs in our district do a terrific job of taking our motto of Service Above Self  to heart,” said District 6400 Governor Traci Sincock. “Sometimes we get so involved in our own projects, though, that we forget to see the big picture. By coordinating some of the projects to take place in one 24-hour period, we can step back and see just how big the impact of our entire district is.”

Projects on September 17 will include food banks and birthday boxes, clothing and book drives, garden and park cleanups, community picnics and events, and fundraising bike rides, runs, and golf tournaments.  Two clubs in Livonia, Michigan will be delivering beds they have built for needy families.

Rotary members throughout the world take action to make communities better. They contribute their time, energy, and passion to carry out meaningful and sustainable projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, help mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies.

Rotary’s top priority is the global eradication of polio. Rotary launched its polio immunization program, PolioPlus, in 1985 and in 1988 became a leading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

Rotary Club of Dearborn to mark 100th anniversary with ‘Service Above Self’ celebration

Dearborn, Mich., July 25, 2022 – Founded in 1923, the Rotary Club of Dearborn looks forward
to celebrating its centennial anniversary and 100 years of ‘Service Above Self’ in the community
and around the world.

Announcing Rotary Club of Dearborn 100th Anniversary Service Above Self Celebration
The public is encouraged to save the evening of Saturday, March 18, 2023, for an enchanting
strolling dinner and musical concert extravaganza with the international headliner Dennis
Edwards’ Temptations Review, and opening with Thornetta Davis, Detroit’s Queen of Jazz. The
event will be held at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn.

“We are the oldest service organization in Dearborn and only the third club in Rotary District
6400 to mark this significant anniversary,” said Colleen Nieman, who is serving as club co-
president with Shannon Peterson during the 2022-23 Rotary year.

According to Nieman, who served as president in 2020-21, plans were already well underway
by Dearborn Rotarian Rick Goward to hold a grand 100th anniversary celebration and
community fundraiser when Goward, who was elected to be club president in 2022-23, died
unexpectedly on January 30.

“Rick’s death left a big hole in our hearts and those of all who knew him,” said Peterson,
immediate past president. “Colleen and I, and the rest of the club knew we had to step up to
fulfill Rick’s vision for an unforgettable anniversary celebration that will fund a community project
to benefit this wonderfully diverse community. This is our full intent.”

Community Service Project

Nieman and Peterson shared that funds raised from the 100th Anniversary celebration in March
2023 will be used to help renovate the auditorium of Dearborn’s Henry Ford Centennial Library,
making it more accessible to individuals and groups.
