Our first meeting in February was the kick-off of our favorite month–
Youth Month
Twelve students from Dearborn High Schools joined us, enjoying pizza and participating in the meeting. Dearborn Rotary will host three meetings during Youth Month culminating on Feb. 22 with the traditional youth-run meeting. See the schedule above and don’t miss the fun this month.

Our guest presenter today was a good friend and Hines Park PM Rotarian, Derek Locke to talk about  Shelter Box.  For many years, Derek volunteered as a Shelter Box Response Team Member, traveling around the world delivering Shelter Boxes in countries where they were needed.  He is now a Shelter Box Ambassador, sharing Shelter Box through presentations and events.

Youth Month students had many questions for Derek  like how the Shelter Box process works and what challenges arise from distribution in hostile countries.
ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity established in 2000 that provides emergency shelter and other aid items to families around the world who have lost their homes to disaster or conflict. Rotary International has partnered with Shelter Box and the Rotary Club of Dearborn has donated funds to purchase ten Shelter Box kits over the past 15 years.
After offering a thoughtful invocation at today’s meeting, Rotarian and Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Glenn Maleyko began club announcements by presenting information on the upcoming millage renewal for Dearborn Public Schools.

Dr. Maleyko urged everyone to vote and offered reasons why passing the millage would be a wise decision.

He also recognized the efforts of a high school student campaign, led by Dearborn High student, Nick Thorpe, urging residents to vote ‘yes’ on the millage renewal.
